Box Score HUNTSVILLE (Softball) – Mississippi Valley finally wrapped up the regular season with their final rescheduled contest at Alabama A & M University in Huntsville, Alabama.
The contest between the Devilettes and Lady Bulldogs was a make-up contest from earlier in the season, entering the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament, each team had to complete the conference schedule, playing 100 percent of their contests.
In today's contest, the Devilettes took the win, 6-5 in eight innings, to claim their seventh conference victory over the last eight contests. With a 7-1 record over the last several contests, Mississippi Valley will enter the conference tournament on a high note.
Mississippi Valley will enter the SWAC Tournament as the fourth seed from the Eastern Division and will face the Western Division's number one seeded, Texas Southern University Lady Tigers.
In today's contest, the Devilettes recorded six runs on 14 hits and three errors.
At the conclusion of the fifth inning, Mississippi Valley was down 1-0. With two runs scored in the sixth, the Devilettes recaptured the lead. Alabama A & M scored once in the bottom of the sixth to tie the contest at two-all.
With the game tied at the conclusion of regulation, the contest headed into extra innings. Mississippi Valley exploded in the top of the eighth with four runs. The Lady Bulldogs attempted to rally back in the bottom of the inning however they fell short, scoring only three runs.
