HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State University concluded the away portion of their schedule Sunday with a 5-2 setback at Alabama A&M.
Â
The host Lady Bulldogs scored two insurance goals late in the match to break open what had been a close contest until the 84th minute. Valley (3-7-2) fell to 0-3-1 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.
Â
Karenth Zabala-Terrazas led the Devilettes with a goal – her fourth of the season – and an assist in the match. She provided the helper on Laadi Issaka's strike in the 44th minute to tie the score at 1-1 shortly before the intermission.
Â
After the host side scored barely four minutes into the second half, it was Zabala-Terrazas who provided an almost immediate answer with an unassisted goal in the 52nd minute of the contest.
Â
Issaka's goal was her 12th of the season. As of Thursday, she ranked third in the NCAA in points per game, and second in total goals behind Raimee Sherle of Boise State.
Â
The Devilettes will finish their regular season with six consecutive home matches over the month of October. Their next match will be against Howard on Friday at 7 p.m. at the MVSU Soccer Complex.
