Devilettes Release 2019 Schedule

ITTA BENA – Head coach Lee Smith has released Mississippi Valley State's 48-game schedule for the 2019 season, which features three matchups against teams which made the NCAA Tournament last season. The Devilettes will play Alabama who advanced to the Super Regional, as well as both Wichita State and Mississippi State who were part of last season's Women's College World Series squads. On the home front, the Devilettes will play 15 games at MVSU Softball Field.

The 2019 season gets underway at the Southeastern Louisiana Tournament in Hammond, LA. The Devilettes start the year on Friday, Feb. 8 against San Jose State. During the weekend MVSU will also battle Northern Illinois and the host Lions on Saturday, Feb. 9 and Southern Illinois and the host Lions again on Sunday, Feb. 10.

The following weekend MVSU returns to Louisiana for the LA Tech Tournament in Ruston, LA. There the Devilettes will see the host Lady Bulldogs on Friday, Feb. 15, both Abilene Christian and Wichita State on Saturday, Feb. 16 followed by Southeastern Missouri on Sunday, Feb. 17.

MVSU opens at home against Grambling State in a doubleheader slated for Wednesday, Feb. 20 at the MVSU Softball Field. On Tuesday, Feb. 26 both squads will tangle a second time down in Grambling, LA.

The month of March begins with a four-game tournament at the University of Memphis. MVSU takes on Loyola on Friday, Mar. 1, UT Martin and the host Tigers on Saturday, Mar. 2 and then Sam Houston on Sunday, Mar. 3. Next, the Devilettes travel to Tuscaloosa, AL on Wednesday, Mar. 6 for a meeting with Alabama prior to their final weekend tournament of the 2019 season at Mississippi State. The host Bulldogs and the Devilettes will first play on Friday, Mar. 8 and then again on Saturday, Mar. 9 after MVSU's matchup with LA Tech in Starkville, MS.

The Devilettes open up Southwestern Athletic Conference play on the road at Arkansas Pine Bluff on Tuesday, Mar. 12. SWAC action continues with MVSU hosting Texas Southern in Itta Bena on Mar. 15-16 and the following weekend has the Devilettes traveling to Southern on Mar. 22-23. The Devilettes remain on the road for a mid-week doubleheader at the Mississippi University For Women on Tuesday, Mar. 26 and then a conference road trip to Alcorn State on Mar. 29-30 concludes their competition for the month.

MVSU will face five of seven opponents at home during April before a postseason run in the month of May. The Devilettes host Central Arkansas on Wednesday, Apr. 3 and Alabama State on Apr. 5-6. A single game at Southern Mississippi will take place on Tuesday, Apr. 10 and their final non-conference game is a week later on Apr. 16 as Louisiana-Monroe makes their way to Itta Bena. SWAC play wraps up the Devilettes' remaining schedule. Alabama A&M (Apr. 19-20) and Arkansas Pine Bluff (Apr. 23) are the final home games for MVSU. Their regular season finale has the Devilettes competing on the road at rival Jackson State on Apr. 26-27.

Postseason play will begin with the SWAC Tournament in Montgomery, AL (May 8-11). The NCAA Regional round (May 17-19), followed by the NCAA Super Regionals (May 24-26) at campus sites. The 2019 Women's College World Series will once again take place in OKC, May 30 through June 5.
