HOUSTON, Texas (February 25, 2019) – Senior Kristy Parker scored a team-high 13 points in the Devilettes final road game of the regular season, 73-45 loss to Texas Southern Monday evening in the H&PE Arena.
Mississippi Valley State (4-22, 3-12 SWAC) finishes the regular season with a 3-15 road record picking up two wins in conference play. Parker notched her 17
th double-figure scoring game converting on 6-of-10 free throws. The Devilettes made 17-of-23 (70 percent) free throws but struggled shooting posting 25 percent (13-51) from the field and 15 percent (2-13) from three-point range.
Senior LaKendra Bassett had eight points making all four of her free throws while junior Jazmin Holmon grabbed six rebounds. Junior Angelica Darcus led the bench scoring six points and senior Desiray Mosley had three steals.
Texas Southern (12-13, 8-6 SWAC) held MVSU to a season-low point total (45), made field goals (13) and field goal percentage (.255). Both of their two made three-pointers and six assists each tied for the second lowest of the season.
Marquia Turner finished with a game-high 16 points for Texas Southern hitting 4-of-8 three-pointers. Catherine Okwilagwe scored 10 points and Isis Lane grabbed 10 rebounds for the Lady Tigers.
MVSU will close out the regular season with three home games at Harrison HPER Complex. The Devilettes will host Jackson State on Saturday, Mar. 2 at 2 p.m. Then they host Grambling State on Monday, Mar. 4 at 5:30 p.m.
