Softball Competes at Blue City Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Freshman Jade Arroyo led Mississippi Valley State softball with four hits including a pair of doubles in three games over the weekend at the Blue City Classic hosted by Memphis on Friday and Saturday at the Softball Complex. MVSU came up short in all three games falling to Loyola-Chicago, UT Martin and Memphis.

Loyola Chicago 12, MVSU 0
Four Devilettes recorded hits in their first of three games over the weekend against Loyola-Chicago. MVSU loss 12-0, but Arroyo had her second multi-hit game of the season going 2-for-3 at the plate against the Wolves.

Junior Kailyn Dunn singled to shortstop and Arroyo singled to right field in the first inning. Junior Miranda Sandavol had the only hit of the second inning singling up the middle and then in the third sophomore Deshonte Smith singled to center field and Arroyo got on base with a single up the middle.

Freshman Daisy Page (0-4) pitched 3.1 innings striking out one batter while senior Alejandra Salazar went 1.2 innings with two strikeouts. Loyola-Chicago finished with seven hits scoring 12 runs. The Wolves scored two in the first inning and five in both the second and fourth innings.
 
UT Martin 8, MVSU 0
Arroyo doubled to left field in the second and Smith singled down the right-field line in the fourth inning for the only Devilettes hits of the morning. Alyssa Montes got the start and went 1.1 innings. Freshman Mercedes Silva pitched most of the game going 3.0 innings with one strikeout.

UT Martin had nine hits scoring eight runs. They had one run in the first, six in the second and one more run in the fifth inning.
 
Memphis 9, MVSU 1
Freshman Jaylon Davis went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored on a wild pitch in the fourth inning for the Devilettes. Davis singled to shortstop and then Arroyo doubled to center field sending Davis to third. In the fifth inning, Davis singled up the middle for the final hit for MVSU.

Salazar (0-3) got the start and pitched five innings walking eight. Freshman Daisy Paige had one strikeout tossing 0.2 innings of work.

Mississippi Valley State softball returns to the field on Wednesday, March 6 with a non-conference road trip to Tuscaloosa, Ala for a meeting with Alabama at 6 p.m.
