ITTA BENA, Miss. - Mississippi Valley State University inducted seven new members into the MVSU Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, Apr. 13, 2019 at the R.W. Harrison Complex.
The members of the Class of 2019 were:
Earl "Spider Blue" Collins (baseball),
Anthony Davis (men's basketball),
Charles E. Davison Jr. (baseball),
Willie Fulton (football),
Larry Harper (football),
Thomas Leonard (football), and
Judy Sisney-Moffett (women's basketball).
Earl "Spider Blue" Collins
Collins attended MVSU and worked as a student coach as well as a tutor helping other students. As a pitcher on the MVSU baseball team, Collins was honored as the Most Outstanding Pitcher and Most Outstanding Freshmen. As a senior, he was a member of the All-SWAC Baseball First Team.
Anthony Davis
Davis was an All SWAC performer for the Delta Devils basketball team during his playing days. He led MVSU to a pair of SWAC Championships and one NCAA Tournament appearance. In 1996, Davis' picture was featured in the Sports Illustrated magazine while guarding Allen Iverson the NBA's number one draft pick, when his MVSU team gained an appearance in the NCAA regional tournament. Davis graduated from MVSU in 1999 and while in high school, he was nominated to the McDonald's All-American Basketball team.
Charles E. Davison, Jr.
Davison was a four-year letterman on the Delta Devils baseball team. He pitched two no-hitters in 1976 and received the Most Improved Player award in 1977. Davison is also a member of the MVSU Baseball Alumni and the MVSU Atlanta Metropolitan Alumni Chapter.
Willie Fulton
Fulton played football for the Delta Devils and in 2016 was honored as MVSU Top 100 Greatest Players of All-Time. As a student-athlete, Fulton was named an All-SWAC Honorable Mention twice (1976 and 1977), and in 1978 was named a member of the Mutual Black Sports Network First Team All-American. In 1979, Fulton signed as a free agent with the Oakland Raiders of the National Football League (NFL) after being named a First Team HBCU All-American.
Larry Harper
Harper is a 1979 graduate of MVSU and played on the football team earning many accolades. In 1975, Harper was named to the All-SWAC rookie team. In 1976 and 1977 he was an All-SWAC honorable mention. In 1978 he was a member of the NAIA All-Regional Team, made First Team All-SWAC and helped the Delta Devils lead the NCAA in pass defense. Harper started and played in 40 career games totaling 16 interceptions. In the winter of 1978, Harper was selected to play in the inaugural Black College All-Star game at the Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Thomas Leonard
Leonard was named All-SWAC and an All-American while playing at MVSU. His former head coach Archie Cooley gave Leonard the nickname "Tommy Gun" after watching him launch a few deep passes. Prior to MVSU, Leonard attended Southern Mississippi for a year before transferring to MVSU. Upon completion of his career at Valley, Leonard followed other MVSU football alumni to the NFL. In 1987, he was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs as a free agent in 1988 and played for the Canadian Football League's Saskatchewan Rough Riders.
Judy Sisney-Moffett
Sisney was crowned Ms. Women's Basketball for the Devilettes in 1979 and also received a Leadership Award. In 1977 Sisney earned the MVSU Coach's Award, in 1978 she was named Offensive Player of the Year and in 1979, she received her Letterman Blanket along with a second Leadership Award for the dedication to the MVSU women's basketball team.
