Itta Bena, Ms.- Mississippi Valley State Devilettes lost a tough one as they fall to the Lady Hornets of Alabama State by a score of 66-61 in a Southwestern Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday Evening.
 
It was a back and forth battle from the beginning of the game with Alabama State taking a 8 point lead after one quarter of play. 

The Lady Hornets maintained the lead up until the six minute mark in the fourth quarter, where Shelli Thigpen converted on a layup and the "And-1" free throw shot to follow. The battle continued from there and the Devilettes had a chance to tie the game again with 1:27 to go in the game. Unfortunately the shots didn't fall and the Lady Hornets drained a couple foul shots to close the game. 

Shelli Thigpen lead the way for Mississippi Valley with 19 points and six rebounds. Azaria Howard added 12 points and 7 rebounds.

Despite those numbers for the Devilettes, it wasn't enough to match the 17 points for Jayla Crawford and the 14 points and 4 rebounds for Ayana Emmanuel of the Lady Hornets. 

The Devilettes are back at home this Monday for a match up against conference foe, Alabama A&M. Tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
