MVSU Softball Traveled to Face the Lady Bulldogs

HUNTSVILLE, AL. – The Mississippi Valley State Devilettes traveled to compete against the Alabama A&M Bulldogs in Huntsville, AL on this past weekend. The two teams competed in a three-game series on Friday and Saturday, April 30 – May 1. 

Game 1
The first inning of the game was a rocky start for both competitors, but the second inning went in favor of the Lady Bulldogs. AAMU scored on the third play of the second inning, making the score (1-0). They also scored on the next play on a wild pitch (2-0). The Lady Bulldogs scored their last two points in the remainder of the inning, one of which was unearned (4-0). Kathleen Sims singled through the left side and Karlee Schierbeek singled through the right side for the Devilettes in the third inning. Sydney Wesley reached on a fielder's choice to first base. Sims scored the first point for the Devilettes in the third (4-1). Brianna Alston doubled down the left field line, while Schierbeek and Wesley scored for the Devilettes (4-3). Jaylon Davis singled through the left side for the Devilettes in the fifth inning, and Alston singled to right field. The Devilettes ended with a total of two errors. The final score of the game was AAMU 4 – MVSU 3. 

Game 2
A'tajua Wren had a total of four strikeouts against the Lady Bulldogs for the Devilettes throughout the game. Cailyn Peterson singled to shortstop in the fourth inning. The Lady Bulldogs had a total of three hits in the fourth inning. One of those hits was a homerun to left center, which made the score (3-0) favoring AAMU. Shelby Carson singled to left center in the fifth inning. Sydney Wesley singled up the middle in the sixth inning for the Devilettes. Jaylon Davis homered to left center and S. Wesley scored advancing the score for the Devilettes (3-2). Peterson singled to left center, and shortly after Keisha White doubled to left center. Peterson later score the last point for the Devilettes equaling the score to (3-3). S. Wesley singled to shortstop in the seventh inning for the Devilettes. The Lady Bulldogs scored the last point of the game in the last play ending the scoring (4-3). The Devilettes ended with one error. The final score of the game was AAMU 4 – MVSU 3.

Game 3
Cailyn Peterson singled to left center in the first inning for the Devilettes. Karlee Schierbeek singled up the middle in the top of the second. Brianna Alston singled in the third inning with a bunt for the Devilettes. C. Peterson doubled to center field, while B. Alston scored the first point for the Devilettes (1-0). AAMU scored their first point in the fourth inning on a wild pitch (1-1). Alston singled through the left side and Jaylon Davis doubled to left center in the fifth inning. The Lady Bulldogs scored again in the fifth inning due to an error by the Devilettes pitcher, unearned (2-1). S. Charles, AAMU player, homered to center field making the score (3-1). Shortly after the Lady Bulldogs scored their last point in the game in the sixth inning (4-1). Alston singled to second base making that the last hit for the Devilettes in the seventh inning. The Devilettes ended with two errors. The final score of the game was AAMU 4 – MVSU 1.
