Mississippi Valley State Top Performers

  • Williams set a career-high with seven steals, tied her previous career-best of nine assists, and set a new season mark at six rebounds on top of five points. She became the first MVSU athlete since LaKendra Bassett to have seven steals in a night as Bassett accomplished the feat on March 4, 2017.

  • Etienne set a new personal-high with 20 points to co-lead the Devilettes, converting 8-of-19 shots (42%) and four triples (4-for-12, 33%) for her ninth game with ten-plus points and third consecutive.

  • Mahoney was the Valley player that shared the team scoring title on the day, hitting on 7-of-13 attempts (53.8%) for her second 20-point-plus appearance of the year, eighth double-digit scoring outing, and her sixth straight such contest while playing just 26 minutes.

  • Sarah Moore fell one rebound shy of being the first Devilette with 15 boards since Ashley Beals hauled in 17 on the same night Bassett went for eight steals in 2017. Moore settled for a season-high 14 rebounds, three assists and two blocks, all coming off the bench.

  • Shelli Thigpen had season-bests in both points (16) and field goals (6), draining 50% of her tries for her third ten-plus point contest in seven appearances.

Notes

  • Valley notched 20-plus assists for the first time in 2021-22, dishing out 21 after coming close in the matchups with Northwestern State and ULM.

  • The Green and White fell painfully shy of claiming both the rebounding and turnover battles, dropping the former by a count of 46-45 while winning the turnover margin by two (23-21).

  • The contest saw numerous swings in momentum as there were 12 lead changes and five ties over the 40-minute tilt.

MVSU will head downtown on Monday evening to tussle with the Lady Tigers of TSU at 5:30 p.m. inside H&PE Arena.
