Tuscaloosa, AL - Mississippi Valley State University (1-12) women's basketball team faced the University of Alabama (13-2), succumbing to a 91-26 defeat on Sunday night.
The Devilettes began the game scoring the opening basket to take an early 2-0 lead. However, the momentum quickly shifted as MVSU found themselves trailing 23-8, facing the uphill battle against a SEC opponent.
Heading into halftime, the Devilettes faced a substantial deficit, trailing behind 47-12.
Kerrigan Johnson led the team with seven points, showcasing her scoring ability and determination on the court. Amberly Brown made a notable contribution with five points and six rebounds, demonstrating her versatility in both scoring and rebounding.
The non-conference schedule proved to be a tough stretch for MVSU, as they went 0-6 in matchups against SEC opponents. However, with the conclusion of non-conference play, the focus now shifts to Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action.
The Devilettes are set to host their first home game of the season on Saturday, January 6, 2023, against Alabama State University. This SWAC matchup provides MVSU with an opportunity to reset and showcase their skills on their home court. The game is scheduled for 4:00 PM, and as they enter conference play, the Devilettes aim to learn from their non-conference experiences, build on their strengths, and strive for success in the challenges that lie ahead.
