BATON ROUGE, Louisiana - Mississippi Valley State University's women's basketball face tough 64-45 loss to Southern University at the F.G. Clark Activity Center on Monday night.

In the first half, the Devilettes trailed the Jaguars 14-0 with 3:25 remaining in the 1st quarter.

However, the resilient spirit of the Devilettes ignited a remarkable turnaround in the second quarter, led by the dynamic performance of Amberly Brown. With tenacious defense and relentless effort, Brown rallied her team, contributing 10 crucial points along with four rebounds and four steals in the first half.

The Devilettes capitalized on their defense, notching nine steals, which translated to 12 valuable first half points in the paint.

As halftime approached, MVSU was able to take their first lead of the game with 48 seconds remaining in the second quarter with two free throws made by Brown to bring the score to 22-21.

After halftime, the Jaguars extended their lead with a 21-8 third quarter over the Delta Devils to bring the score 44-30.

With much effort, the Devilettes fall short to Southern 64-45.

Amberly Brown, undeniably the heartbeat of the Devilettes in this game, showcased her exceptional talent, finishing the game with 13 points, a season-high six steals, four rebounds, and two blocks. Gabby Bunch also made significant contributions with seven points and eight rebounds.

Up next, the Devilettes will host University of Arkansas Pine-Bluff on Saturday February 3, 2024. The game is scheduled for 4:00PM.
