BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Mississippi Valley State University women's basketball program received a jolt of energy from a newcomer as Desiree Smith, a transfer from Johnson C. Smith University, led the offense in scoring during her first active game, an 86-62 loss at UAB.

- Smith, who was just cleared by the NCAA this morning, made an immediate impact with a contest-best 17 points via 5-for-7 (71.4%) in addition to six boards while playing 17 minutes off the bench.
- Ariel Jefferson wrapped up 2025 with one of her best outings, setting season-highs for free throws made (4), blocks (4), and steals (3) on top of 14 points plus a game-most eight rebounds.
- Sydnei Marshall contributed 11 points courtesy of a personal best five buckets to go along with a quartet of rebounds, shooting 50% from the field in the process (5–of-10).
