Devilettes Show Heart in Home Match Against Northwestern State

ITTA BENA, Miss. – Mississippi Valley State women's soccer took the field with determination on Sunday afternoon, battling a strong Northwestern State squad in front of 155 fans at the MVSU Soccer Field.

Despite the final score leaning in the Lady Demons' favor, the Devilettes continued to show growth and resilience throughout the 70 minutes. Goalkeepers Genesis Austin and Yvelisse Zamora combined for eight saves, with Austin making several impressive second-half stops to keep Valley fighting until the final whistle.

Defensively, Bailee Washington, Kelsey Kaluna-Thomas, and Empress Tembo-Jackson anchored the back line, working together to disrupt passing lanes and clear dangerous balls from the box. Washington also showed her grit by playing a full 90 minutes, leading by example with toughness and effort.

In the midfield, Alice Legnedahl and Lilly Gansauge provided steady minutes, while Mia Brumfield and Alaina Martindale added energy with their ability to pressure the ball and connect in transition. On the wings, Nina Schiks and Julieta Vega battled to create outlets against a relentless Northwestern defense.

While the scoreboard did not reflect Valley's effort, the Devilettes left the field with valuable experience against one of the Southland Conference's top teams. With each match, MVSU continues to build chemistry and strengthen its identity, showing glimpses of promise that will serve them well as the season progresses.

Mississippi Valley State will look to regroup and carry the positives forward as they prepare for their next contest.
