MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Mississippi Valley State University softball program had already scored once and were threatening to tie or win game two with a runner on first with only one down in the bottom of the seventh, but an unlucky 4-3 double play snuffed out the Devilettes' comeback hopes during its 5-4 defeat to Grambling.

- Sheridan Kynard became the first to score for Valley on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first as part of a 2-for-3, two runs scored day.

- Kaluna-Thomas was the player of the contest for the Diamond Devilettes, drawing the club's only base on balls, scoring once, and rocketing a two-run single into right field.
Â
- Diaz joined Kynard in the multi-hit category, going 2-for-3 with a pair of base knocks and a score.

Diamond Devilettes' Top Performers (Game 2):

- Kynard walloped both a triple and a double in the nightcap, driving in a run and scoring another.

- Ashytn Clark pitched fantastically in the circle, going the distance while striking out five Tigers and allowing just two earned runs on top of belting a single in the batter's box as well.

- Diaz could not be stopped by GSU, reaching in each of her three plate appearances (all singles) with an RBI, a run scored, and the team's first stolen base.

- Devyn Dotson logged a two-bagger, Akers singled, and Partee was the potential tying run in the seventh after she drove home Dotson with an RBI-single.

- A quick turnaround for Valley is next as a Saturday showdown with Miles College takes place at noon before battling the Big Blue of Bluefield State University around 4:30 p.m., both games at Lagoon Park.
