Offense Provides Fireworks In Best Showing Of Season

 
ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Mississippi Valley State University softball program had its best offensive output of 2026 in Saturday's doubleheader against AAMU, putting up a campaign-high 12 runs in the opener and an additional five during the finale despite coming up on the wrong end of both outcomes, 20-12 and 14-5.

Diamond Devils' Top Performers (Game 1):
 
  • Jamiyah Gary was one of four Diamond Devils with multiple hits in game one, unloading the bases with a three-RBI triple in a huge six-run first inning.
     
  • The only other student-athlete with both a multi-hit and multi-RBI showing was Kelsey Kaluna-Thomas who went 2-for-3 including a pair of ribbies and runs scored on top of a walk.
     
  • Sheridan Kynard scored all three times she reached, tacking on a three-bagger as well as two runs batted in plus a base on balls and a steal.
     
  • Michelle Diaz swiped not just one base, but two as the speedster crossed the dish twice after singling and coaxing a free pass.
 
Diamond Devils' Top Performers (Game 2):
 
  • Madison Wesley was the best player in Green and White during the series finale, going 2-for-2 with two scores and getting hit by an errant pitch.
     
  • Diaz put forth another two-knock performance as she reached safely thrice on two singles and a base on balls over three at-bats.
     
  • Taniya Partee joined her teammates in collecting more than one hit during a 2-for-4 affair.
     
  • Hailey Akers and Kynard were the lone players with RBIs, plating one apiece.

  • Tuesday will see the Devils tangle with the Alcorn Braves in Lorman for a 1/3 p.m. twin bill.
