Marcus Thomas

Marcus Thomas is in his second year as Associate Head Coach for the Mississippi Valley State men's basketball program. He spent the 2011-12 season as the primary assistant coach at Delta State under Jason Conner.

Prior to this time at DSU, Thomas served as the head coach at Marion Military Institute.

Thomas directed the Marion Military Institute Tigers, a member of the Alabama Community College Athletic Association, to a 56-56 overall record in his four seasons at the helm, including a 21-12 mark in his first season at MMI. His .500 winning percentage ranks No. 1 all-time among former head coaches while 22 players went on to play at four-year institutions after completing their time in his program.

A proven recruiter, Thomas coached 2008-2009 ACCC Player of the Year Jermaine Mallett, who recently completed his degree at Missouri State University, and six former players have gone on to play professionally under his tutelage.

Prior to taking over at MMI, Thomas served as an assistant coach at Millsaps College (2003-2006), Jackson State University (2002-2003) and Tougaloo College (2001-2002).

He also spent time as an assistant basketball coach while serving in the United States Army at Fort Bliss (Texas) and Fort Carson (Colorado). In all, Thomas spent four years coaching in the military.

From 1998-2001, Thomas was a point guard on the Belhaven University men's basketball team. A 2001 graduate with a degree in Sports Medicine, he led the Blazers to the NAIA National Tournament as a senior.

While at Belhaven, Thomas was named to the Dean's List and was chosen for Who's Who Among America's Colleges and Universities.

Thomas earned his master's degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from Jackson State University in 2004.
