Lee Smith is entering his 2nd season as associate athletic director at Mississippi Valley State University. Smith, who has served as intramural director since 2003, also began his duties as an associate athletic director in 2013.

During his tenure at helm of the softball program, the Wiggins, Miss. native has taken the Devilette program to new heights, winning eight SWAC Tournament championships. The Devilettes have reached the SWAC Tournament championship in each of the last 15 seasons.

Smith’s resume includes eight NCAA Tournament appearances and the distinction of being the first HBCU softball team to win a game at the tournament when the Devilettes defeated Missouri, 4-3. He has been named SWAC Coach of the Year seven times.

The Devilettes have went undefeated in conference action twice under Smith – in 2009 when Valley finished 17-0 and in 2012 when the Devilettes went 16-0.

A total of 61 MVSU softball student-athletes have been named All-SWAC under Smith and 45 have been named National Fast-Pitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Scholar-Athletes.

Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) from MVSU in 2000.

2009 - NCAA Regional (Tuscaloosa), win streaks of 10, 9, 8, and 6 games, most wins in school history, SWAC Coach of the Year, player named Pitcher and Newcomer of the Year, player named SWAC Tournament Most Outstanding Perfomer, 2 named to SWAC All-Tournament Team, 6 named All-SWAC

2010 - Captured 2010 SWAC Eastern Division title, team had a 9-game win streak, 2 named to SWAC All-Tournament Team, 4 named All-SWAC

2011 - Kimberly Spived named SWAC Pitcher of the Year, 5 named All-SWAC, advanced to SWAC Tournament championship game

2012 - NCAA Regional (Lafayette, La.), finished season with 16-0 SWAC record, defeated Ole Miss, Memphis and Southern Miss, SWAC Coach of the Year, 6 named All-SWAC, Alicia Lorenz named MVSU Female Athlete of the Year, won 17 straight games, Alicia Lorenz named SWAC Pitcher of the Year and NFCAA All-Region team

2013 - Defeated Wichita State, Middle Tenn. State and UTEP, won five straight games to win the SWAC Tournament, NCAA Regional (Mobile, Ala.), 4 named All-SWAC, 2 named to SWAC All-Tournament Team, Alexandria Robertson named SWAC Tournament MVP

2014 - Finished third in the SWAC Eastern Division, beat previously undefeated Jackson State twice in the SWAC Tournament, 3 named All-SWAC, Deja Talton named SWAC Freshman of the Year
