Tony McWhite joined the MVSU staff as Defensive Quality Control and Nickelbacks in July of 2022 after one season at Saint Augustine’s University as Special Teams Coordinator and Safeties coach. He helped the 2021 Falcons finished with the #1 punt return average of 23.67 in NCAA Division Il. The Falcons special teams unit recorded three scores (2 TDs, 1 safety) in 2021. McWhite helped coach and develop three return specialists that finished in Top-15 of the CIAA as well as having helped three safeties record an interception.
Before his college stint, he started his coaching career in the high school ranks for two years (2019-2020) as an assistant defensive backs and special teams coach at Wilson High School in Florence, South Carolina.
As a player, McWhite was a standout nickel & defensive back at Campbell and Fayetteville State . He played as a starter at both institutions before experiencing season-ending injuries while playing a part in FSU becoming 2018 CIAA Southern Division Champions.
McWhite earned his Bachelor degree in Sports Management from Campbell University in 2017.
