Riley Murry

Riley D. Murry, Jr. has worn many hats for Mississippi Valley State University. As of the 2016-17 school year, Murry is serving as the head men and women's tennis coach. Prior to this appointment, he was the head men and women's golf coach.

At East Oktibbeha High School in Crawford, Mississippi, he served as the Head Coach from 2001 to 2004. Riley returned to MVSU where he is continued his coaching career as the Running Back Coach.

Murry began his coaching career at Mississippi Valley State as an Assistant Football Coach. At the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, he was the Interim Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach. At Alcorn State University he served as the Offensive Coordinator and Running Back Coach.

He graduated from Mississippi Valley State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology in May of 1984 and received his Master of Science Degree in Physical Education and Recreation from Alcorn State University in May of 2001.

As a football player at MVSU, he was a three-time All Southwestern Athletic Conference performer at the offensive center position and was one of the original members of the famed, “Tons of Fun,” the offensive line that was the nuts-and-bolts of the then Head Coach Archie “Gunslinger” Cooley’s celebrated “Satellite Express Offense.” He was the first offensive lineman at Mississippi Valley State to play in the Freedom Bowl Classic in Atlanta, Georgia in 1983.

Murry has been married to Cassandra Stevenson Murry for 24-years, they are the proud parents of four children: Ashlee, twins, Jasmine and Jarrett and youngest daughter, Maya; one grandson, Jackson Oliver and Goddaughter, Jada Ware.
