Demetrius Howse was named Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Operations at Mississippi Valley State University, where he oversees all external functions for the Delta Devils athletics department, including strategic communications, marketing, branding, media relations, and revenue-generating initiatives.
Howse returned to Mississippi Valley State after previously serving in multiple communications leadership roles across Division I athletics. Most recently, he served as Associate Athletic Director for Strategic Communications at Alcorn State University, where he directed all communications and marketing efforts for the Braves athletics department. In that role, he served as the primary media contact for the department as well as the football, women’s basketball, softball, and tennis programs, managing brand strategy, media relations, digital content, and storytelling across platforms.
A native of Lancaster, Texas, Howse joined Alcorn State following a tenure as Assistant Director of Communications at the Western Athletic Conference in Arlington, Texas. While with the WAC, he served as the primary communications contact for volleyball, women’s soccer, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s tennis, women’s basketball, and softball, supporting championship operations and conference-wide media initiatives.
Prior to his time at the conference level, Howse served as Associate Director of Strategic Communications at Southern University from August 2021 through September 2022. At Southern, he was the primary contact for men’s basketball, volleyball, softball, and tennis, while also serving as the secondary football contact. His responsibilities included scripting and producing a bi-weekly athletics department television show.
Howse’s career includes a previous stint at Mississippi Valley State University, where he worked as Coordinator of Athletics Communications and Public Relations from January 2020 through July 2021. In addition to his campus responsibilities, he worked as a communications and championships contractor for the Southwestern Athletic Conference beginning in fall 2018, contributing in roles such as championship statistics, public address announcing, and graphic design.
He has also served as a contractor with Prairie View A&M University and the University of Houston, and began his collegiate athletics career at Texas Southern University as a media relations statistician from 2011–2015. He later served as a special assistant with the Texas Southern football program from 2015–2018.
Howse earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from Texas Southern University in December of 2017.
