Dr. Maurice Lawson

Reverend Dr. Maurice L. Lawson, a native of Greenwood, Mississippi, has over 20 years of experience providing pastoral care in diverse settings. As a former student-athlete, on the 1993-98 men's basketball team at New Mexico State and as an active-duty soldier for nearly 10 years, Dr. Lawson gained a unique understanding of the rigors and challenges of sports ministry.

As a certified (volunteer) coordinator for the Mississippi Delta’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes Ministry, Dr. Lawson helps to facilitate the spiritual growth and development of coaches and athletes of the ‘Valley’.  As an author, public speaker and seminar facilitator, Dr. Lawson’s extensive background in community service and leadership training has enabled him to bring a Shepard’s heart to the daily ministry of MVSU.

Dr. Lawson earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from New Mexico State University, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Upon completing his undergraduate studies, he obtained a Master of Arts degree in Human Resource Management from Webster University and a Master of Arts in Theology from Columbia International University. In 2015, Dr. Lawson obtained a Doctorate of Ministry Degree from Memphis Theological Seminary with a concentration in Leadership.

Dr. Lawson currently serves as the senior pastor of Living Faith Cathedral Church in Greenwood, Mississippi. In addition to his pastoral duties, Dr. Lawson, directs Maurice Lawson Ministries, Inc. a non-profit community-based outreach ministry. He is married to the former Monica R. Johnson, an active-duty Army Chaplain. They have one daughter, Jiana (17).
