Robert Raines has been appointed as the Deputy Athletic Director at Mississippi Valley State University. Prior to joining the athletic staff at MVSU, Raines served as the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance at Alcorn State University, after serving as Interim Director of Intercollegiate Athletics from June 2023 to October 2024.
Raines brings more than 20 years of experience at both the collegiate and secondary school levels, holding leadership roles in athletic administration and coaching.
He returned to Lorman in 2022 as Associate Athletic Director for Business Operations, a position he previously held from 2008–2009. His prior tenure at Alcorn also included serving as Director of Compliance from 1998–2001 and as Athletic Director from 2001–2006.
Before his most recent return to Alcorn, Raines was an assistant football coach at McComb High School. His collegiate athletics experience also includes leadership roles at Florida A&M University, where he served as Senior Athletics Director for Compliance & Operations, and at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, where he was Associate Athletics Director for Compliance.
An Alcorn alumnus, Raines earned his bachelor’s degree in health, physical education, and recreation with a minor in math and science. He went on to earn a master’s degree in health, physical education, and recreation and sports management, with a minor in sports administration, from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La.
