Stephen Kindell joins the Mississippi Valley State as both assistant Track and Field coach and Sports Performance coach. On the Track he will be working with the sprints, jumps and relay groups. Kindell brings valuable head coaching experience from his previous experience at Eastern Washington University, Loyola University New Orleans and Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis.

At Eastern Washington University, Coach Kindell worked with the jumps and multis groups and saw great success on both the men and women's side having produced an NCAA Division 1 West 1st round Qualifier in Men's triple jump as well as a 3rd place finish in the Big Sky Conference in Women's Long Jump. The Women's team earned a top 15 ranking among NCAA Division 1 Track and Field teams having 4 women all averaging 12 meters or better in Triple Jump. Kindell also assisted EWU's Sports performance Staff.

During his two seasons at Loyola, Kindell coached all event groups and guided six athletes to NAIA Nationals Championships in his first year, producing an All-American in the women’s long jump along with top finishes in the men’s 400-meter hurdles and 4x400-meter relay. Coach Kindell also produces a men's 4x100 meter relay that ran a provisional relay time that same year. A total of twenty-two records were broken in one season under Kindell's time there. Strength and Conditioning programs for both men and women's teams were Kindell's responsibility.

Prior to Loyola, Kindell served as Head coach for both the men’s and women’s programs at Harris-Stowe State. An HBCU in St. Louis Missouri.  Under his leadership, the Hornets earned multiple American Midwest Conference titles as well as All-Conference honors. HSSU swept both Men's 100 meter and Long Jump in the American Midwest Conference. Harris Stowes women won the 100-meter, 200 meter and Triple Jump. Securing a donation from Living Fit, Kindell implemented a strength and conditioning program that helped athletes achieve record-breaking performances and conference championships.

Before entering collegiate coaching, Kindell worked in the National Office as an International Eligibility Coordinator, managing compliance for international student-athletes. During that time, he also coached track and field and basketball at Blue Valley Northwest High School, developing several state qualifiers through his strength and conditioning training.

A Kansas City native, Kindell earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Missouri–Kansas City (UMKC), where he competed as a Sprinter/ Jumper, setting multiple long jump and triple jump records. He qualified for Nationals as a freshman, placing 12th in the triple jump and earning All-Conference honors. He was inducted into the UMKC Track and Field Hall of Fame in 2016. Kindell is a certified multi-sport strength coach and owner of Sun Tribe Fitness, providing private training for athletes of all ages. He holds certifications from USATF (Level I with distinctions in jumps, sprints, and hurdles), USTFCCCA, NSCA and ISSA in strength and conditioning. Kindell has also great success coaching high school basketball, having coached multiple undefeated seasons. Â
