ALEXANDRIA, La. -- The third time was a charm for the Mississippi Valley State women's soccer team.
The Devilettes, who had fell short the last two years in the SWAC Tournament championship game, upended rival Jackson State 2-0 Sunday to win its third title in school history.
The Devilettes (9-9-2) will find out who they will be playing in the NCAA Tournament on Monday during the Division I Women's Soccer Selection show on www.ncaa.com. The show will begin at 3:30 p.m. at http://www.ncaa.com/live/player?vid=2012/564&date=2012/11/05 .
MVSU's Shanesse Spratt, who was recently selected First Team All-SWAC, scored both goals, the final one on an assist from Alexandra Neumann. Her first goal came eight minutes into the matchup while the final one happened at the 78:36 mark.
Valley's goalie Shelby Willcocks had five saves.
MVSU also won the SWAC Tournament in 2005 and 2008.
It marked the first SWAC Tournament title for MVSU head coach Sonia Curvelo, who was named SWAC Coach of the Year.
Willcocks, Kayla Boyd, Hailey Beekman, Jerrica Salido, Nykosi Simmons and Kadie Soall were named to the All-Tournament team while Spratt was named Tournament MVP.
