STARKVILLE -- Mississippi Valley State limited Kansas to just one one through the first four innings, but the Delta Devils couldn't hold back the Jayhawks for the rest of the game.
Kansas (4-0) defeated the Delta Devils (0-4) by a score of 9-2 on Friday afternoon using eight runs through the final five innings during the first day of games at Mississippi State's Dudy Noble Field.
MVSU will face the host team, MSU, on Saturday at noon.
The Jayhawks faced six different Valley pitchers, with Christopher Broadway taking the loss. Broadway worked 4.1 innings and allowed five hits and three runs. He struck out two batters.
Frank Duncan (2-0) earned the victory for Kansas, allowing just two hits with seven strikeouts.
Joseph Germaine and Allen Cheek each had a hit for the Delta Devils.
