ITTA BENA -- The Braves of Alcorn State closed out the weekend series with a 12-7 win over Mississippi Valley State.

The Delta Devils (8-28, 7-11 SWAC) gave up four runs in the eighth inning to the Braves (9-28, 8-7 SWAC) which put Alcorn in the driver's seat.

The Braves opened the game up with five runs in the first inning before adding two more in the third.

MVSU made a splash in the bottom of the fourth when the Delta Devils put up five runs of their own. Edumnd Cheatham knocked in the first run on an RBI single to rightfield before Trey Lacy brought in two more runs on a single to rightfield. Joseph Germaine also had a RBI in the fourth inning on a double to centerfield.

MVSU led 7-6 until the eighth inning when the Braves put four runs on the board.

The teams combined for 31 hits -- Alcorn with 16 and MVSU with 15.

David Lostra suffered the loss (2-7).

Cheatham and Thomas Candler paced the Delta Devils with three hits apiece. Meanwhile, Michael Lowe, Seth Milliorn and Luke Brumfield chipped in a pair of hits each.

MVSU will be at Alabama on Tuesday and Wednesday. The first pitch is set for 6 p.m. on both days.
