Delta Devils' run ends in SWAC title game

Box Score

BATON ROUGE, La. – Mississippi Valley State’s magical run through the SWAC Baseball Tournament came to an end Sunday.

The Delta Devils (17-39) were unable to dig themselves out a late 6-run hole and suffered a 7-4 loss to Prairie View in the SWAC Championship game at Lee-Hines Field.

The Panthers took advantage of three Valley errors, scoring three runs in both the third and eighth inning to stop the Delta Devils from claiming its first tournament title in school history.

Down 7-1 in the eighth inning, MVSU tried to pull off a comeback when they put up three runs. Michael Lowe brought in Valley’s first run of the inning with an RBI single to left field. Seth Milliorn gave the Delta Devils another run with a RBI double. The final run came on a RBI single from Joe Germaine.

Two groundouts and a strikeout in the bottom of the ninth clinched the Delta Devils’ fate.

Kameron Stady (2-10), who started the opening game of the tournament, suffered the loss. He gave up four earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts on six innings of work. Cody Parker, Barrett Baxley and Chris Broadway also pitched in relief.

Milliorn led Valley with three hits while Germaine and Edmund Cheatham chipped in two hits apiece.
