ITTA BENA -- The Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State are preparing to take their second trip to Louisiana this season.

MVSU (1-2), which is coming off a 6-0 win over Southern last Thursday on ESPNU, will conclude its three-game road trip Saturday when they travel to Natchitoches, La. to battle the Northwestern State Demons. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. It’ll mark the first meeting between the two schools.

Northwestern (1-2) is coming off a 45-34 defeat at Nevada last Saturday in a game in which Demon quarterback Brad Henderson – a Starkville native -- passed for 357 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for another 102.

“They kind of came of their shell offensively last weekend,” said MVSU coach Karl Morgan. “So it’s going to be a challenging game, but we’ll have more confidence going into the game having won this past Thursday night.”

While the Demons may have Henderson, the Delta Devils have a playmaker as well. MVSU senior running back Brandon Stansell leads the SWAC in rushing yards (293). He has rushed for at least 100 yards in each of the last two games.

And the Delta Devils have been just as dominant on the defensive side of the ball. MVSU ranks fourth in the nation amongst FCS schools in total defense (220 yards per game). Valley has not allowed a point in the last six quarters dating back to the Sept. 8 game at Alabama State.

“They’ve rose to the challenge, made some plays, made some stops,” Morgan said.

The Demons' lone victory this season came on Sept. 8 in a 31-24 rout of Arkansas-Monticello.
