MVSU at Prairie View A&M
Kickoff: 2 p.m.

Written by: Malcolm R. Miller (MVSU junior Mass Communication major with Broadcasting emphasis)

The Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils will travel to Prairie View, Texas to take on the Panthers of Prairie View A&M University. Kick off starts at 2 p.m., as the Delta Devils look to get their second win of the season against a Prairie View team that has three wins in SWAC Conference play this season. The Delta Devils are coming off a tough loss to rival Jackson State, in a game that came down to the wire at Rice-Totten Stadium.

With the tough defeat, however, the Delta Devils learned about the resiliency of this year's team as MVSU stayed on the heels of JSU the entire game and never let up. MVSU's strong defense will once again have to make a valiant effort as Prairie View A&M has the No. 1 offense in the SWAC. Averaging 36 points and 494 yards of offense per game, Prairie View will try to run up the score on the Delta Devils. On the other hand, MVSU is fourth in passing and rushing defense and lead the SWAC in interceptions with nine on the season.

Defensive backs Avery Boykin, Davon Jones and Terrance Hudson have done a great job creating turnovers for the Delta Devils defense in the midst of a tough season so far. In addition to the defensive backs, linebackers Antonio Benson and Brandon Powe have proved to be the anchors of the MVSU defense, as Benson had 11 tackles while Powe had 7 tackles and a sack against the JSU offense.

The defensive unit will look to slow down PV's quarterback Jerry Lovelocke, who leads the SWAC with 2,062 passing yards through seven games. On the other hand, last week's game displayed the strength of quarterback Jeremy Collins' arm as he filled in for the injured Patrick Ivy and threw for 217 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Julian Stafford emerged as the player the media predicted he could be, as he was Collins' primary target last week. Stafford finished the game with a team high eight receptions and 95 yards and 115 yards on four kick returns for the Delta Devils offense. Riding high off of the excellent display they put on last week, the MVSU Delta Devils will look to avenge the defeat they took to JSU and come out with a victory against Prairie View.
