Box Score ITTA BENA -- Mississippi Valley State and Alabama A&M tied 2-2 in the SWAC opening game for both teams Friday night.
Both teams scored two goals each in the first half.
"The team did well by responding when we went down a goal," said MVSU coach Sonia Curvelo.
"Nykosi Simmons finished two great opportunities. We had 28 shots and it was one of those games where our team was unlucky in front of the goal. We need to do better in front of the goal and finish our opportunities."
Simmons scored both of Valley's goals. The first one came on an assist from Shanesse Spratt and Josee Primeau at the 16:05 mark. Her final goal came nearly 32 minutes into the game on an assist from Bianca Vigliante.
MVSU's Shelby Willcocks finished with four saves.
"I do feel overall we did well," said Curvelo. "The back line did great by minimizing by spaces and did well when they stepped, which prevented players to turn. It is important come Sunday that we do put our chances away and keep creating opportunities."
MVSU will be back at home Sunday at 1 p.m. against Alabama State.
