Texas A&M's late rally spoils Delta Devils' chance at upset

Box Score COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- A look at the final score tells a different story than what acutally happened at Reed Arena Monday night between Mississippi Valley State and Texas A&M. 

The Delta Devils trailed by just one point with 11 minutes remaining before the Aggies went on a late-game run to fight off Valley (0-2) in a 91-67 victory. 

Texas A&M led by as much as 17 in the first half before the Delta Devils came storming back. MVSU trailed 42-35 at halftime. 

Valley cut the lead to 47-45 with 15:40 left on a Daniel Hurtt layup and got even closer with 11:31 left when Anthony McDonald converted a 3-point play that slashed the lead to one, 58-57. 

But A&M went on a 31-10 run from that moment and sealed the victory. 

Anthony McDonald, who led Valley with 21 points, made 4-of-10 three-pointers while Darryl Marshall chipped in 13 points and five assists. James Currington added eight points and a team-high seven rebounds for the Delta Devils, who shot 30.6 percent from the field. 

Kourtney Roberson paced A&M with 24 points and 10 rebounds. 

The Delta Devils will be at home Friday when they host Champion Baptist at 6 p.m. at the Leflore County Civic Center.
