Greenville, Miss. -- Prairie View closed out its four-game series against Mississippi Valley State by splitting a pair of games Sunday at Legion Field. TheDelta Devils (1-3, 1-3 SWAC) defeated the Panthers 7-6 in Sunday's first game before falling 5-3 in the nightcap in seven innings.
Prairie View won the series 3-1 after defeating MVSU 14-11 and 16-3 on Saturday.
Game 3
German Hays knocked in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday as Mississippi Valley State held off Prairie View 7-6 for its first victory of the season.
Kevin Simmons (1-0) earned the win after allowing three runs and two hits in two innings. He finished with two strikeouts.
Seth Milliorn and Luke Brumfield each had three hits for MVSU while Hays paced the Delta Devils with three RBIs.
Jonathan Mata (0-1) suffered the loss while allowing five runs and eight hits. He had five strikeouts.
Game 4
Prairie View closed out the series with a 5-3 seven-inning game victory. Prairie View's Brett Valley had 3 RBIs and Walter Wells had two hits, including a double for the Panthers (3-1, 3-1 SWAC).
Joseph Germaine accounted for two of MVSU's nine hits. Marcus Mangum (0-1) took the loss as he allowed three runs on three hits with two walks.
MVSU will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to Delta State.
