Delta State racks up 21 hits in win over MVSU

Box Score CLEVELAND -- The No.1-ranked Delta State proved why they're the top-ranked Division-II team in the nation Tuesday.

The Statesmen (7-0) racked up 21 hits in a 13-5 win over Mississippi Valley State (1-4) at Ferriss Field. DSU hit three doubles, a triple and Brent Langston hit a 2-run homer in the fifth inning that put the Delta Devils away for good.

Trey Lacy (0-1) suffered the loss in his first game on the mound this season after allowing eight runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts in three innings of work. Three other pitchers saw action with Kevin Simmons closing out the game.

Seth Milliorn, German Hays and Mark Kaplan each had two hits apiece for Valley. The Delta Devils committed four errors.

MVSU will be on the road at Dallas Baptist for a three-day series beginning Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
