Alcorn State takes two games from Delta Devils

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GREENVILLE, Miss. -- Alcorn State swept Mississippi Valley State on Saturday 5-3 in game one and 9-1 in game two at Legion Field.

Game One
The Braves (10-31, 10-6 SWAC) scored three runs using two bases-loaded walks and a sacrifice fly. Angel Rosa and Ryant Piper each hit an RBI-single for Alcorn earlier in the game.

MVSU (4-34, 1-13 SWAC) attempted a comeback in the ninth inning, scoring two runs, but it was too late for the Delta Devils. Edmund Cheatham and Edward Cox each had an RBI in the ninth. Seth Milliorn scored Valley's first run in the sixth using an RBI-double.

Kameron Stady (0-5) suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.

Mike Peters (3-6) threw a complete game, allowing three earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts for the Braves.

Piper led Alcorn with three hits. Cheatham and Milliorn each had two hits apiece for the Delta Devils.

Game Two
Alcorn State racked up 14 hits en route to a 9-1 win over MVSU. Alcorn scored three runs in the sixth inning and four in the eighth.

Valley's lone run came in the third inning on an RBI-single from Cox.

MVSU's Montana Kiler (1-10) gave up one earned run on six hits with five strikeouts. Harris Gary (4-2) gave up four hits with two strikeouts in six innings of work for the Braves.

Edgar Salas and Alvin Jackson each led Alcorn with three hits apiece.

German Hays, meanwhile, accounted for two of Valley's four hits.

MVSU and Alcorn will play the final game of the series at 1 p.m. Sunday.
