GREENVILLE, Miss. -- Alcorn State closed out its three-game series at Mississippi Valley State with a 8-3 win over the Delta Devils at Legion Field.

The Braves (11-31, 11-6 SWAC) scored six runs in the sixth inning when Ryan Akins knocked in three runs on a 2-run double and an RBI-single.

MVSU (4-35, 1-14 SWAC) scored its first run of the game in the seventh inning on an Alcorn error before adding two additional runs in the eighth when Kevin Simmons and Edmund Cheatham each brought in a run.

Both teams committed four errors in a game.

Akins, Alvin Jackson and Edgar Salas each led the Braves with two hits each.

Alcorn's Cedric Walker (1-3) allowed three hits with five strikeouts in six innings of action. David Lostra (2-6) gave up seven earned runs on six hits with a pair of strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work.

MVSU will be at Louisiana-Monroe on Tuesday and Wednesday. First pitch Tuesday is set for 6 p.m.
