Delta Devils out of SWAC Touranment race after loss to Bulldogs

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GREENVILLE, Miss. -- Mississippi Valley State's last chance to advance to the SWAC Baseball Tournament failed Thursday following a pair of losses to Alabama A&M at Legion Field.

The Bulldogs defeated the Delta Devils 15-3 in game one and held on for a 12-11 victory in the final game of the day. The win gives A&M the final spot in the SWAC Tournament, set for May 15-19 in Forth Worth, Texas. Meanwhile, the Delta Devils (5-44, 1-21 SWAC) will conclude its season with two games against the Bulldogs at 1 p.m. Friday.

Game one
A&M scored in six of seven innings and racked up 18 hits in a 15-3 win over MVSU. Seth Milliorn, Mark Kaplan and German Hays each had two hits apiece for Valley.

Grant Reifers (0-4) gave up 11 earned runs on 13 hits in four innings of work.

Cornelius Woods led A&M with four hits.

Game two
The seven inning game included four homeruns and 25 hits combined between the two teams. MVSU's Edmund Cheatham hit his second homerun of the season and finished with six RBIs.

German Hays (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing nine earned runs on eight hits in two innings of work. 
 
Valley rallied back in the bottom of the seventh with four runs, but came up short in its last-ditch effort.
