Box Score CONWAY, Ark. -- It was a rough start Friday for the Mississippi Valley State women's soccer team, as the Devilettes succumbed to Central Arkansas, 4-0, in its season-opening game.
Shanesse Spratt, Nykosi Simmons and Jerica Salido each had a shot for MVSU, but the Devilettes were unable to score.
UCA scored three goals in the first half and added another in the second.
MVSU senior goalkeeper Shelby Willcocks had 12 saves.
"We started the first half a little slower than we would have liked," said MVSU coach Sonia Curvelo. "Some of the players are learning their new positions and with time it will come together."
Despite the loss, there are some positive aspects to come from the loss, Curvelo added.
"We did create opportunities to score, which is important," she said. "Overall, we looked at what we did great and know that we have to improve in certain areas. The important message is improving from game to game."
The Devilettes will play their first home game of the season Sunday when they host Southern Miss at 1 p.m.
