ITTA BENA – The Mississippi Valley State football team is in the midst of preparation for another in-state rival.

MVSU (0-2) will be in Lorman Saturday to take on Alcorn State at Jack Spinks Stadium at 2 p.m. as the Delta Devils look to earn its first victory of the season following a 24-14 loss to Delta State last week.

Alcorn State (0-2), which is coming off a loss to Mississippi State, holds a 42-16-1 lead in the series against MVSU. Valley ran past the Braves last season 33-9 at Rice-Totten Stadium, which ended a five-game losing streak to Alcorn.

Like last season, MVSU's defense has been the heart of MVSU's team. The Delta Devils forced four turnovers last Saturday against Delta State, including three interceptions. Valley is currently ranked fourth in the SWAC in total defense, allowing just over 370 yards per game.

Fourth-year head coach Karl Morgan is proud of their defensive effort, but would like to see the Delta Devils put more points on the board as a result.

"We have to do a better job turning those turnovers into points," he said. "Winning the turnover battle is good….but it still didn't translate into a victory.

"We have to dig our way out of this hole and a find a way to get on the winning side of the column."
