MVSU soccer ties in third straight game

Box Score Family and friends of Mississippi Valley State women's soccer were served with delicious meal of soccer Friday night as Devilettes tied Texas Southern University 0-0 in two overtimes.

This is the third consecutive tie this season for Devilettes as they continue to chase their first win.

"We have been asking the right questions of our opponents," said MVSU head coach Fabio Boateng. "We will continue to dig deep to find the win so hopefully that will be Sunday against Prarie View".

The Delivettes led both halfs in shots, recording eight shots against six in first half and 10 against seven in second half.

The first half of the game saw MVSU getting out of the blocks quickly and warming the hands of TSU goalkeeper Liliana Hernandez earlier on in the game with two quick shots from forward Nykosi Simmons and Hailey Beekman. TSU responded to the challenge almost instantly at the other end of the field when Tiana Humphrey broke away before Heather Craddock stopped her in her tracks. The game became a ding-dong affair from there on with both teams looking to break the virginity of the game. MVSU looked the more likely to open the scoring but shorts from Mariana Balbao, Josee Primeau and Alyse Marco was saved by Liliana Hernandez.

Valley limited TSU to long range of shots as the defensive unit of Alexis Mansoor, Josee Primeau, Andrea Kennedy and Hannah Scott kept things tidy at the back. Rita Gyasi dealt with seven loose balls as the goal tender for the devilettes as Liliana Hernandez had 9 saves. The game was characterized by physical play as the center referee Tunji Ajayi showed four yellow cards: three for TSU and one for MVSU.

MVSU will return to the field on Sunday to serve the second dose of family weekend as they welcome Prarie View. Kick off is at 1pm.
