Volleyball drops pair of games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BATON, Rouge. -- The Mississippi Valley State women's volleyball team dropped a pair of games Friday to Alabama State and Southern University during the Coach Denu Southern Invitational.

Both ASU and Southern defeated the Devilettes, 3-0, at Cliford Seymour Gym.

In the first game, which was against ASU, the Lady Hornets dominated the Devilettes 25-2 in the first set before winning the final two sets, 25-14 and 25-12. Halle Gayten had four of the team's 12 kills in the game and chipped in five digs in the game. Bianca Watkins had eight assists and Steffi Rodriguez added a team-high six digs. Meanwhile, Ilashia Hale had three blocking assists in the loss.

Later on Friday, the Devilettes faced the host team, Southern, and suffered a 3-0 loss to the Lady Jaguars: 25-13, 25-19, 25-11.

Halee Clark had a team-high six kills and Rodriguez again led the team in digs -- this time with 14. Hale had three of Valley's 10 blocking assists and Bianca Watkins accounted for 12 of the Devilettes' 14 assists.

MVSU will be off until Oct. 22 when they travel to Tougaloo College.
