ITTA BENA, Miss. -- The regular season is almost over for the Mississippi Valley State women's soccer team.
The hot-streaking Devilettes, who have won three of its last four games, will play its final regular season game Friday, Oct. 31 at home against Alcorn State at 7 p.m. MVSU is currently is seventh place in the SWAC standings and has solidified a spot in the SWAC Soccer Tournament, set for Nov. 6-9 at the John Hunt Soccer Complex in Huntsville, Ala.
Valley will be facing a winless Alcorn State team that is 0-12 (0-9 SWAC) on the season.
So far, MVSU has been led by Nykosi Simmons who ranks second in the conference in shots (63) and tied for third in goals with eight. She is also second in the SWAC in points per game (1.25). Meanwhile, sophomore Rita Gyasi has been nearly unstoppable in front of the net. The sophomore from Ghana is second in the SWAC in saves per game (9.12) in just eight games of action. She leads the conference in shutouts per game with 0.38.
Friday's game will be the final home contest for MVSU's five seniors: Josee Primeau, Jayme Forcier, Hailey Beekman, Alexis Mansoor and Nykosi Simmons.
