ITTA BENA, Miss. -- The Mississippi Valley State football team will put on their pads for the final time this season on Saturday when the Delta Devils meet Southern University in Baton Rouge at 6 p.m. at Mumford Stadium.

MVSU (2-8, 1-7 SWAC) is searching to end its season with another SWAC victory while the Jaguars (7-3, 6-1 SWAC) need a win to stay in the race for a chance at the SWAC championship game, set for Dec. 6 in Houston.

Stafford just 19 yards away from 1,000-yard mark
MVSU senior receiver Julian Stafford needs just 19 yards Saturday to become only the fourth player in school history to accumulate 1,000 receiving yards in a season, joining Tyrone Timmons, Joe Thomas and Jerry Rice. Stafford, a Memphis native, has already reached a career high in receptions (62), receiving yards (981) and touchdowns (9).

Jones excelling in new position
After one season as a defensive back for MVSU last year, Davon Jones has made its presence felt to opposing offenses after making the switch to linebacker this season. After coming up with a forced fumble and an interception last Thursday against Grambling State, the Phoenix native was selected CFPA Honorable Mention Linebacker of the Week. So far this season, he is second on the team in tackles (60 and first in interceptions (2).

Young returning to home state
Redshirt sophomore defensive end Khalil Young will be back in his home state when the Delta Devils and Jaguars meet Saturday. The New Orleans native has made a huge impact in his second year on the field, leading the team in tackles for loss (11) and sacks (4). Young, who went to high school at McDonogh 35, is the lone player on the MVSU team from Louisiana.
