ITTA BENA, Miss. -- The regular season ended on a high note last week for the Mississippi Valley State women's soccer team as the Devilettes dismantled Alcorn State.

Now, Valley hopes to keeps its momentum going this week during the SWAC Soccer Tournament at the John Hunt Soccer Complex in Huntsville, Ala. With a 4-3-3 conference record, the Devilettes captured a sixth seed in the tournament and will have to defeat a streaking Alabama State team in order to keep its season alive.

The two teams are set to meet Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the tournament. The winner will face either No. 2 seed Prairie View or No. 7 Southern University on Friday at 6 p.m.

The championship game is slated for Sunday, Nov. 9 at noon.

Alabama State, who has its last seven games, defeated the Devilettes, 3-1, earlier this season in Montgomery. But, MVSU has been just as hot. The Devilettes have won four of its last five games and have given up just five goals in the last five games.

First-year head coach Fabio Boateng said he has always believed in his team.

"We have always believed we have the quality to make it to the playoffs," he said. "It was just a matter of digging deeper after three straight ties early on in conference games. The team responded well and now has the momentum going into the tournament with back-to-back shutouts."

Simmons leads the way
After accomplishing a hat trick last week against Alcorn State, redshirt junior Nykosi Simmons has racked up a team-high 11 goals this season, ranking her second in the conference. She has has six assists this season, which ranks fourth in the SWAC.

Craddock on six-game scoring streak
Freshman Heather Craddock has scored a goal in each of the last six games.

MVSU searching for fourth conference title
A SWAC Tournament title this season would mark the fourth in school history. The Devilettes claimed the title in 2005, 2008 and 2012.
