ITTA BENA, Miss. – A new era for the Mississippi Valley State University baseball program has arrived.
Â
On Tuesday, MVSU Director of Athletics Dianthia Ford-Kee officially announced that longtime MVSU assistant coach Aaron Stevens will be named head coach. The Jackson, Miss. native spent the last 14 seasons under Doug Shanks, who recently retired and took over the baseball program at Central Hinds Academy.
Â
"I am excited about the opportunity to lead our baseball program into a new dimension," said Stevens. "We will be exciting and competitive but most of all we will look forward to every opportunity to play each game like it will be our last."
Â
Stevens has helped the Delta Devils rack up five SWAC Eastern Division titles since his arrival. He has also coached several former All-SWAC selections including Jeff Squire, Jerry Hilldreth and Corey Littleton.
Â
Stevens was a four-year letterman at Nicholls State, where he led the team in home runs and doubles twice.
Â
Stevens, a graduate of Lanier High School, earned a master's degree from Mississippi Valley State in 2013. He is married to Candace Stevens and they have one son, Caleb.
