Box Score 3 DALLAS, Texas -- The Mississippi Valley State baseball team fell at Dallas Baptist last weekend in a three-game series to begin the 2014 season.
The Delta Devils fell 19-0 on Friday and 19-3 on Saturday. The Patriots closed out the series with a 14-2 win over Valley.
Friday
Dallas Baptist racked up 15 hits and scroed in all but one inning in a 19-3 win over the Delta Devils. Terrance Steele accounted for two of Valley's three hits. In his first game as a Delta Devil, Trent Kinney suffered the loss, giving up seven earned runs on six hits with one strikeout in 2.2 innings of work.
Saturday
MVSU scored the game's first run of the game in the top of the first inning, but the Patriots put two runs on the board in the second inning and went on to defeat the Delta Devils 19-3. Arrington Smith, a freshman from Greenville, paced MVSU with a pair of hits while Kalik May scored two runs. Jonathan Parker (0-1) gave up six earned runs on eight hits with six strikeouts in 4.1 innings of action.
Sunday
MVSU's Brady McBride had two hits and a RBI in a 14-2 loss to the Patriots. Valley got on the scoreboard for the first time of the game in the seventh inning on McBride's RBI-single. Tyler Case scored the final run in the ninth after a wild pitch. Tyji Hawkins (0-1) gave up eight earned runs on nine hits with one strikeout in three innings of work.
MVSU will be back in action Wednesday at 2 p.m. when they host Morehead State on the campus of Mississippi Delta Community College in Moorhead, Miss.
