Delta Devils drop series at JSU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 JACKSON, Miss. -- The Mississippi Valley State baseball team dropped a three-game series last weekend at rival Jackson State in its second conference series of the season. The Tigers defeated the Delta Devils 12-4 and 17-3 on Saturday before holding on for a 3-2 win Sunday.

Game 1 (JSU 12, MVSU 4)
Alex Bravo had a career-high three hits and the Delta Devils (0-18, 0-7 SWAC) finished with 13 hits overall, but MVSU also committed four errors and gave up 12 hits in the loss to the Tigers. Kalik May, Brady McBride and Xzavier Franklin each chipped in two hits apiece for Valley. Connor Sheppeard (0-5) gave up five earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts in four innings of work.

Game 2 (JSU 17, MVSU 3)
JSU scored in five out of six innigs at the plate and racked up 13 hits in the seven-inning win over MVSU. The Delta Devils committed three errors and scored two of its three runs in the final inning of the game on an Xzavier Franklin ground out and a single to center field by Kalik May.

Game 3 (JSU 3, MVSU 2)
MVSU went into the bottom of the ninth inning with a 2-1 lead over JSU before the Tigers pounded out two hits to slide away with the victory in the final game of the series. JSU's Jose Cruz hit the game-winning RBI-single to power the Tigers to the win. Earlier in the top of the ninth inning, Valley took a 2-1 lead after a sacrifice bunt by Chris McWright that scored Terrance Steele. Alex Bravo led MVSU with two hits and McWright accounted for both of Valley's two RBIs in the game. In eight innings of work, Jonathan Parker gave up no earned runs and allowed just three hits with four strikeouts. Blake Thomas (0-2) relieved Parker and gave up two runs in 0.1 innings of action.
