Series opener at Alabama ends with loss for Delta Devils

Box Score TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- For the first four innings, the Mississippi Valley State baseball team gave up just one run to SEC opponent Alabama. 

But over the next three innings, the Tide poured in seven runs on its way to an 8-0 win over the Delta Devils at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The teams will meet again Saturday at 2:05 p.m. before closing out the series Sunday at 1:05 p.m.

The Delta Devils (0-13) gave up just nine hits and committed one error in the matchup. 

Alabama scored two runs in the fifth and sixth inning before pouring in another three runs in the seventh inning. 

Connor Sheppeard (0-4), a freshman from Greenville, Miss., gave up three earned runs with four strikeouts in five innings of work. Shawn Wiseman and Jacob Reifers came in to relieve Sheppeard during the game.
