Box Score MOORHEAD, Miss. -- Jackson State started hot and ended hot Friday against Mississippi Valley State.
The Tigers put up six runs in the first inning and added seven more in the seventh to capture a 15-3 seven-inning win over the Delta Devils (1-29, 1-13 SWAC) at the Jimmy Bellipani Baseball Complex.
MVSU tried to fight its way back, cutting the lead to 7-3 in the fifth inning with one of those runs coming on a RBI-triple by Valley's Kalik May. JSU (24-16, 7-9 SWAC) however added a run in the sixth inning following a walk and exploded with seven runs in the seventh inning to seal the win.
Jonathan Parker (0-7) gave up four earned runs and had one strikeout in one inning on the mound. Meanwhile, Desmond Russell (5-4) pitched all seven innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs with six strikeouts.
Parker Thurman led MVSU with two of its six hits on the day.
MVSU and JSU will close out the series with a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m.
