Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Mississippi Valley State suffered a 17-1 loss at Memphis on Tuesday at FedExPark.
MVSU scored its lone run of the game on a throwing error in the second inning, but it would be the only time the Delta Devils would get on the scoreboard. Memphis scored 15 of its 17 runs through the first four innings, including five in the third.
Valley's Tyji Hawkins went 2-for-2 while Dylan Castoria, Xzavier Franklin and Brady McBride chipped in one hit apiece.
McBride (0-2) suffered the loss, giving up five earned runs in 1.1 innings of work. Goddard had four strikeouts in three innings of relief work.
MVSU will be on the road at Alabama A&M starting Saturday at noon for a doubleheader.
