CLEVELAND, Miss. -- Last season, Nykosi Simmons was an offensive force for the Mississippi Valley State women's soccer team, scoring four goals while attempting 31 shots.
On Tuesday, in an exhibition season-opener for the Devilettes, the junior standout nearly reached that same goal total -- in one game.
Simmons, who was tabbed First Team Preseason All-SWAC, scored all three of Valley's goals in a 3-3 tie at Delta State as the Devilettes played their first game under new head coach Fabio Boateng.
MVSU found itself down 3-1 at the 41-minute mark after a goal by Rebecca Deegan. But the Devilettes bounced back later in the game with Simmons' goal at the 61:51 mark and 74:09, less than a minute before the game expired.
Josee Primeau assisted on Simmons' first goal at the 30:19 mark. In her first game at MVSU, Anna Noonan finished with two saves.
Now, the Devilettes will turn their focus to their first regular season game, which will be against another in-state foe -- Southern Miss on Sunday, Aug. 24 in Hattiesburg.
